West Midlands towns deemed 'car-friendly'
8 March 2011, by Elizabeth Smythe
A poll confirming the UK's most car-friendly towns has seen two of its top five spots occupied by sites in the West Midlands, according to The Birmingham Post.
The poll, commissioned by Virgin Money, used data collated from the Office of National Statistics and various other criteria to rank 65 towns throughout the UK, based on how accommodating they were for drivers.
Factors such as the number of congestion alerts, speed cameras, parking availability and cost, fuel prices and vehicle crime were all taken into consideration
Parking can be important consideration for anyone looking to relocate, so those seeking property in Birmingham and the surrounding region may be pleased to hear that West Bromwich and Sutton Coldfield took the second and fourth spots respectively.
Grant Bather, a spokesperson for the company, made a statement on virginmoney.com concerning the results, claiming: "The UK's 24 million motorists are often driven to distraction by the frustrations of driving with parking problems, petrol prices and speeding tickets among the biggest issues.
"Of course everyone will have their own [frustrations] whether it is hunting for a parking space, being stuck in a traffic jam or being caught by a speed camera. Our research attempts to show which cities and towns and best and worst for drivers."
Telford and Sunderland also made the top five, whilst Cardiff, Oxford and Reading didn't fare so well in the poll.
